Pinellas County Housing Authority and Community Service Foundation’s 2012 First Time Homebuyer and Household Budgeting Workshops Schedule

The Pinellas County Housing Authority (PCHA) and the Community Service Foundation have finalized their 2012 Seminar and Workshop Schedule. Mark your calendars now!

The free First Time Homebuyer and Household Budgeting Seminars and Workshops will be held at either PCHA’s Central Office, which is located at 11479 Ulmerton Road in Largo, or at French Villas Apartments located at 6835 54^th Avenue North in St. Petersburg. All classes consist of a two-part workshop series. The first, upcoming, free two-part seminar will be to educate First Time Homebuyers and is scheduled to be held at PCHA’s Central Office from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Tuesday, January 3^rd and from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Tuesday, January 10^th, 2012.

Free Financial Education Workshops at PCHA

PCHA has joined with the Wealth Building Coalition to offer free Financial Education Workshops at PCHA’s Central Office located at 11479 Ulmerton Road in Largo. The two-part workshop series will be held from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Tuesday, September 20th and from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Thursday, September 29th, 2011.

By participating in the Financial Education Workshop, participants will gain an understanding of the various types of financial institutions, will learn the fundamentals of a checking and savings account, and will learn how to better manage their finances. Once the participant completes both of the required workshops they will receive a Bank on St. Pete (BOSP) Certificate. This BOSP certificate will allow the participant to begin a banking relationship, regardless of their previous banking history, from a select list of financial partners.

PCHA Announces Free Household Budgeting Seminars

PCHA has partnered with the Community Service Foundation to offer free Household Budgeting Seminar’s at PCHA’s Central Office located at 11479 Ulmerton Road in Largo. The two-part seminar series will be held from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday, September 15th and from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday, September 22nd, 2011.

By participating in the budgeting seminars, participants will learn how to complete a budget plan based on household income and monthly expenses. The budgeting seminars are for anyone who desires to save money and gain better control over their finances.

PCHA’s Prospective Landlord Workshop

Prospective Landlord Workshop, September 14, 2011

Pinellas County Housing Authority (PCHA) will host a workshop to introduce prospective landlords to the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 3:00 pm. Property owners with available rentals in PCHA’s area of operation, which include unincorporated Pinellas County and the cities of Largo, Oldsmar, Tarpon Springs, Dunedin, Kenneth City, Bellair, Palm Harbor, Pinellas Park, Safety Harbor, and Seminole, who are interested in finding our more about the HCV programs and how to participate, are invited to attend.

Father’s Focused on Families Event

We hosted our first Father’s Day event centered around children of our communities either in affordable or public housing, or housing choice voucher holders. The event was dedicated to celebrating the relationship between a father and his child and the importance of that very special bond. The event took place on Saturday, June 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 11443 Ulmerton Road in Largo, Florida.

There were crafts, games, vendors, food, prizes and lots of fun for Dad to particpate with his children. State Representative Darryl Rouson was the keynote speaker of the event. There were also resources for entrepreneurship, health and wellness education, job training, education information as well as a moon bounce house, face painting and free haircuts!

This event was part of a national initiative prompted by HUD and influenced by a New York City Housing Authority who launched a similar successful event last year.
